Electronic Vehicle Tracking Devices
Along for the ride
Many of these electronic systems are combined with a communications component, such as a cell phone or satellite transmitter to communicate the location of the vehicle to a remote user. Vehicle information can be identified on an electronic map on the Internet or by using specialized software. The system of tracking device is installed in the car at an unknown location. This miniature device software is not visible and there is no indication that outwardly a car can have a device of this type. For a thief, it is impossible to detect the presence of the device.
Someone is watching
When the car is stolen vehicle tracking system is activated and sends a signal. This signal is traced by the police. In the early years of evolution of the tracking device, police can only control a moving vehicle. However, current technology has led to the development of more sophisticated devices that can alert to any unauthorized movement of the vehicle. Some new warning systems, even if the door is opened or the ignition is turned on.
Go GPS
All vehicles are equipped with a satellite global positioning system (GPS) can accurately determine the exact location of the vehicle and send the information to law enforcement. The police also have equipment to track vehicles equipped with GPS tracking devices. The GPS tracking system is relatively easy to install. It also fitted in the car is a GPS receiver and cellular modem and an antenna is attached to the vehicle structure.
The GPS device is powered by the battery from the car. The surveillance system can be accessed through a PC using a special software program. These modern devices can provide the exact location of the vehicle, the route’s history, direction of travel, date and speed.
Passive vs. active
There are two basic types of vehicle tracking devices classified as assets and liabilities. Passive devices to record the GPS location, speed car, steering and some even are triggered when the ignition key or car door is tampered with. When the car is returned, the device is removed and analyzed data on a PC. The latest model of passive tracking systems also have characteristics of auto download via a wireless signal. Passive tracking systems have found increasing use among home owners who want to control their spouse or children. These devices are also used by law enforcement to gather more intelligence on criminal activities. Active devices to collect the same data but transmit the information via satellite in real time which can be watched on a TV screen or monitor.
Other applications
Today, the use of electronic tracking devices has gone beyond the theft of cars. Many taxi companies to use the system of control of their taxis and can immediately direct a wardrobe to pick up a client. Great movement truckers and companies also use these devices to control effcient use of their vehicles.
Money Matters
The cost of an electronic tracking device is variable, depending on the features. Most electronic devices in today’s market, including LoJack, OnStar, BlackJax, Motorola and PageTrack2 can cost from $ 300 to $ 1000. Most companies that offer services such as mapping services, software and location of vehicles when his car was stolen. While these systems, electronic tracking of great sound and do implementing the law will help locate the vehicle, one has to be aware of the high initial costs of installation, plus a monthly fee of $ 20 to $ 50.

How can I tell if a lojack or other tracking device has been attached to my car by perhaps an “ex-wife” ?
Where are the usual locations I would look on my vehicle to find one?
